Indications:
Relieves symptoms associated with excess stomach acid, stomach ulcers, gastritis, and duodenal ulcers, with symptoms such as nausea, stomach pain, heartburn, and a feeling of fullness in the stomach.
Composition:
Each chewable tablet contains:
Dried aluminium hydroxide gel equivalent to aluminium hydroxide 200 mg
Magnesium hydroxide 200 mg
Directions for Use:
Adults: 1–2 tablets, 3–4 times daily.
Children 6–12 years: ½–1 tablet, 3–4 times daily.
Take 1–2 hours after meals and at bedtime; chew the tablet before swallowing.
Warnings & Precautions:
– Do not give to patients with severe kidney impairment, as it may cause hypermagnesemia (elevated magnesium level in the blood).
– Not recommended for continuous use for more than 2 weeks unless directed by a doctor.
– If using other ulcer medicines such as cimetidine or tetracycline antibiotics, separate doses by 1–2 hours.
– Not recommended for patients on a low-phosphorus diet or for long-term use, as it may lower blood phosphorus levels.
– Not recommended for children under 6 years unless directed by a doctor, as the cause of symptoms is usually unclear.
Mechanism of Action:
The combination of aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide is an antacid that neutralizes stomach acid and inactivates pepsin, reducing heartburn caused by irritation from stomach acid and pepsin. In addition, the laxative effect of magnesium hydroxide offsets the constipating effect of aluminium hydroxide.
Side Effects:
Common side effects are constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting; these symptoms go away when the medicine is stopped.
Contraindications:
Patients with impaired kidney function.
Drug Interactions:
Taking together with cimetidine or tetracycline may reduce the absorption of those drugs.
Storage:
Store below 30°C and protect from light.
